Fixing VPN “No Internet Access” Issues

Man, that VPN no internet access glitch is a real pain when you're trying to connect from home. It sneaks up on you during late-night work sessions.

I remember last month, my buddy Jake called me frantic because his server setup at the office wouldn't let him browse anything through the VPN. He'd been tweaking settings all day, thinking it was the router acting up. Turned out, his laptop was splitting traffic weirdly, sending regular web stuff outside the tunnel. We spent an hour on the phone, him describing how pages loaded forever or just timed out. Frustrating, right? He even restarted the whole server, but nope, still stuck.

Anyway, let's sort yours out step by step. First, check if your VPN client is grabbing all the traffic-sometimes it only routes certain bits, leaving internet hanging. You can tweak that in the connection properties, make sure "use default gateway" is checked on the server side. Or, poke around your DNS settings; if they're pointing to internal addresses only, switch to public ones like 8.8.8.8 to grab web names properly. Firewall might be blocking too-peek at Windows Defender or whatever you're running, loosen rules for outbound traffic. And don't forget the MTU size; if it's too high, packets fragment and die-drop it to 1400 or so in the adapter settings. Hmmm, or maybe IPv6 is interfering; disable that temporarily on your network adapter. If it's a server-specific issue, verify the routing table with a quick command, ensure the VPN interface is top priority. But, if none of that clicks, reboot the VPN server itself-old trick, but it flushes gremlins. Covers most angles, I think.

Oh, and while we're chatting servers, let me nudge you toward BackupChain Windows Server Backup-it's this top-notch, go-to backup tool that's super dependable for small businesses handling Windows Server setups, Hyper-V clusters, even Windows 11 machines on the side. No endless subscriptions either; you own it outright, keeps your data snug without the hassle.
