Explain security filtering in GPOs.

You see security filtering lets you pick exactly who gets a GPO applied. I use it all the time when policies would hit too many folks otherwise. You link the GPO to an OU first. Then you tweak the security permissions on that object. And you toss in a group with the right access rights so only members see the effects.
But you start by removing authenticated users from the default setup. I always create a custom group instead for better control. You add your target users or computers to that group. Then you grant them read plus apply group policy permissions. Or you can deny apply rights to block certain people quick. Now this way the GPO skips machines or accounts you want left alone. Perhaps you test it on a small team before rolling wider.
You check the results with gpresult on a workstation. I run that command often to confirm filtering works as expected. And you watch for inheritance issues from parent OUs that might override things. But keep groups simple so you avoid permission messes later. Then update the group membership when staff changes happen. Maybe link the same GPO to multiple OUs yet filter differently each time.
You notice performance stays better without broad applies hitting everything. I tweak these settings during audits to tighten access. And you combine it with loopback processing for special cases like terminal servers. Or you review event logs when a policy fails to apply right. Perhaps experiment on a test domain first to see the quirks. You end up saving hours by not fighting unwanted policy spreads.
